In partnership with business units, ITS enables staff and volunteers to serve AARP’s members by expanding the reach and breadth of AARP’s programs, products, services and information accessSummary StatementThe Technology Advisor, Applications reports directly to the Director, Application Services. The Technology Advisor is responsible for providing leadership and guidance in the design, development, integration, maintenance and customization of Business Management applications across the enterprise. The Technology Advisor collaborates with colleagues in Technology Service Management and other ITS stakeholders to establish goals and achieve strategy and objectives in support of the AARP business needs. The Technology Advisor also provides formal supervision and coaching to developers and sets vision and direction to inspire and drive continuous improvement of policies, standards and procedures.The Technology Advisor is expected to demonstrate moderate leadership expertise to drive the strategic direction of Technology Service Management as well as significant depth of technical expertise in application services. Additionally, the Technology Advisor is expected to demonstrate One AARP cultural attributes and behaviors in all interactions.Responsibilities

Functional/Technical Responsibilities

The Technology Advisor has significant interactions with key leaders in the Technology Service Management organization as well as executives in the Customer Service & Solution Delivery group. The Technology Advisor will also work closely with Director, Enterprise Architecture and Platform Services. The key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the day-to-day design, development, release and maintenance of business application systems that support critical business strategies.
  • Develop innovative solutions taking into consideration performance, scalability and availability with realistic implementation schedules.
  • Define systems scope and objectives, identify systems interfaces and devise or modify procedures to solve problems and develop detailed specifications.
  • Provide oversight and review of technical specifications to manage and guide the development team in system initiatives.
  • Serve as technical liaison and subject matter expert in customer interaction via Customer Service & Solution Delivery Group on Business Management application technical matters.
  • Partner across the ITS organization through various stages of the development lifecycle including requirements gathering, analysis, design, testing, implementation, maintenance and support to optimize solution development and ensure requirements can be supported.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers in Program Execution domain to monitor project work plans, budget and schedules for the ongoing support of systems.
  • Work with external vendors to understand and improve business solutions through process improvements and technology enablement.
  • Manage interface development and package implementations, as well as enhancements and configurations to newly implemented applications.
  • Ensure project/program objectives are met in a timely manner and apply in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing systems and applications.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level application support for enterprise-wide business applications and manage on-call schedules.
  • Maintain expert working knowledge of current state software development tools and methods, software testing methodologies, and research emerging trends in application product development space.

Relationship Management

  • Work under the direction of Director of Application Services on strategic initiatives related to application developers to continuously improve policies, standards and procedures by anticipating issues, providing advice and sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Develop strategic relationships with other team members and business partners and partner across the ITS team to align with AARP internal and external client demands.

Leadership Responsibility

  • Oversee Business Management Application Services and supervise developers.


Requirements

Desired Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of business, computers, information systems or related degree
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience in related functional role

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
