Job Description
Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and implementation of automated information systems. Consults with system users and defining needs, analyzes system problems and designs solutions, develops system requirements and procedures, as well as supporting all Windows related systems. Responsibilities include Windows operating systems, email services, security setup and configuration, Active Directory administration, and MS desktop productivity applications. Interfaces with third-party support and vendors and attends various meetings related to computer technology. Researches, proposes and implements new technologies and provides training, as needed. This position is required to provide weekend and after-hours on-call support as needed. This position reports to the Enterprise Infrastructure Manager.Major Job Tasks

  • Analyzes all Windows related systems and identifies problems. Installs system upgrades and patches Develops and follows installation procedures, reviews procedures and work flow, evaluates data, defines information requirements, designs solutions to identified and defined problems. Documents analyses and evaluations.
  • Develops and documents systems requirements. Details problem resolutions, designs programs, outlines data inputs and outputs, and defines procedures to be followed.
  • Consults with users on system requirements, organization, and operations. Identifies problems, defines needs, and gathers information and data.
  • Tests and debugs system solutions in simulated production environment. Documents applications with flow charts, outlines, narrative descriptions, and systems manuals. Installs applications, trains users, and monitors systems for function and efficiency.
  • Maintains and refines routine and complex information systems and programs. Trains users in systems applications and interprets results, responds to and resolves user problems, completes technical enhancements and modifications of and updates existing programs. Maintains system files. (10%) [1,2,5]
  • Advises supervisor on equipment requirements and problem areas and makes recommendations for solution of problems.
  • Reviews and evaluates new equipment and software offerings and recommends for purchase, as appropriate. Advises users on hardware and software alternatives. Determines standards for selection of software.
  • Responds to user requests for service. Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions. Makes minor repairs to equipment and arranges for other servicing needs.
  • Provides on-call support after business hours by responding and addressing automated alerts as well as user reported problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems. Must be able to build, test, and troubleshoot Microsoft-based servers and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory systems, administration, and security. Must be able to analyze, interpret, and apply information from several sources.
  • Specific knowledge of computer hardware, specifically Dell servers, NetApp storage systems, and Cisco networking.
  • Detailed knowledge of mail services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with desktop productivity applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standard internet protocols, such as DNS, FTP, and DHCP.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using various computer software applications, such as MS Word, Excel, electronic mail, and accounting systems, including the ability to perform maintenance on existing programs and identify or coordinate development of user requirements.
  • Mathematical skill to calculate and interpret data using percentages, ratios, averages, and medians.
  • Written communication skill to compose correspondence, reports, and proposals.
  • Oral communication skill to communicate with customers, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to make presentations outside work group.
  • Interpersonal communication skill to work effectively with others in order to coordinate activities and arrive at mutual decisions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service by answering questions, providing accurate information, and responding to requests on a timely basis.
  • Ability to provide support to other employees by being directly responsible for finding out what information, services, or support other employees need to do their job.
  • Ability to plan and schedule activities over the course of several months. Regular review and coordination of activities are required for implementation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work effectively with periodic supervisory guidance. General internal policies, guidelines, and procedures are utilized.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibility

Provides work guidance, technical assistance, or on-the-job training to other individuals in the work group.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience; or, 6-8 years related experience; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Sitting: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand to open files and operate office machines. Must maintain mobility between departments and to attend meetings of employees and managers.
  • Bending/Reaching/Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, reach, or stoop to obtain office supplies and operate office equipment.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Light physical effort under 10 pounds.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.

Work Environment

Work is typically performed in a regular office setting. No exposure to adverse conditions.
