Role Description
Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) is an entrepreneurial network of partnerships with leading academic medical centers (AMC) that aligns leading scientific and clinical experts from the AMCs with Pfizer’s world-class scientists, drug development capabilities and breadth of resources to speed the translation of breakthrough science into innovative medicines for patients.Pfizer scientists will work alongside post-docs assigned to sponsored programs towards the common goal of translating science into novel Proof-of-Mechanism (PoM) studies across multiple therapeutic areas and indications to increase the probability of reaching Proof-of-Concept (PoC) and ultimately bring novel and differentiated medicines to patients.

Responsibilities
The candidate will be an essential member of the CTI-NYC Biology Group. He/she will use assay development expertise to design and execute experiments to address aspects of basic and translational biology of drug targets, molecular pathways, and relevance to human disease. The candidate will assist with the evaluation, characterization and validation of the mechanism of action of antibody, protein and/or small molecule drug candidates. A variety of cellular, biochemical and pharmacological methods will be employed using human cell lines and primary cells to effectively translate innovative ideas into drugs.

The applicant will function as a member of project teams. He/she will present results and recommendations at local and project team meetings. The candidate will collaborate closely with other members of CTI-NYC, CTI scientists at other sites, and our academic partners to ensure meeting aggressive project deliverables, goals and timelines. The candidate is expected to embrace and embody the entrepreneurial spirit and biotech-like culture, values and goals of the CTI and contribute to creating an exciting, collaborative, productive and scientifically rigorous working environment.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS (5 yrs) /MS (3 yrs) experience conducting laboratory research
  • Cellular assay development expertise required
  • Previous experience with compound screening/characterization in a pharma or biotech environment
  • Ability to succeed in a small, interactive, non-traditional drug-discovery environment

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Assay development methods experience including cellular and biochemical assay development and execution: cell culture and ELISA required; flow cytometry, Western blotting and imaging techniques including IF/confocal microscopy desirable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to design, execute and present experiments
