Job Description
Principle Scientist – Bioinformatics will provide technical leadership and expertise in building qPCR and NGS assay design pipelines and QC tools for new product development. This position will also be providing expert input and vision to build new bioinformatics capabilities at IDT to meet future challenges, and participating scientific collaborations and long-term R&D planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads to develop qPCR assay and NGS primer/probe design pipelines/QC tools for new product launch
  • Develops new bioinformatics tools to support internal R&D and external customers
  • Interacts with external bioinformatics KOLs for new product ideas or solutions for mega dada analysis
  • Participates in external collaborations from experimental design, data analysis, publishing findings in scientific journals to presenting at scientific conferences
  • Provides expert input and vision to build new bioinformatics capabilities to meet future challenges
  • Accelerates scientific innovation and generates new IP or trade secret at IDT
  • Participates in long-term R&D planning
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
Education:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biology or related field required


Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of biotech industry experience in qPCR assay and/or NGS bioinformatics required
  • Expert knowledge and experience in qPCR assay design pipeline development with a proven record of developing new qPCR assay products required
  • Experience in NGS hybridization probe design and data analysis preferred


Other Job Qualifications

  • Proficient in PERL, SHELL, SQL, and database design
  • Familiar with Python, Unix/Linux, Cloud computing, LSF/PBS, Java, C/C++ and XML
  • Ability to coach others effectively
  • Skill of excellent oral and written communication
  • Adaptability to perform under stress when confronted with critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.

Physical Requirements:

Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently

Frequent (34-66% of work day)

  • Sitting : to assume a position in which the weight is largely supported by the buttocks, usually with the body vertical and the thighs horizontal.
  • Using Fingers/Grasping/Feeling : writing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers or palm and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touch.
  • Talking : expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work- those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Reaching : extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing : maintaining an upright position.
  • Walking : moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.
  • Lifting : raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Repetitive Motion: substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Bending : bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist and/or bending leg; bending legs at knee to come to rest or kneel.
  • Pushing/Pulling : using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward/using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Climbing : stairs, stools, ramps, ladders.


Visual Acuity:

  • Ability to read pertinent printed material and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to accurately read measurements on equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
