Job Description

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a full-time Operating Engineer to help support the CHP-Plant Maintenance Department for its Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh location.

Responsible to operate, make repairs and monitor all building systems such as HVACR, electrical power, life safety, medical gases and direct digital controls. Also responsible for snow removal, preventative maintenance, performing minor craft work and, when needed, miscellaneous outside grounds work.

Responsibilities

-Responsible for the operation for CHP Complex including all Oakland satellite buildings as assigned.
-Perform rounds of all mechanical/electrical equipment and checks their operation. Make minor repairs and issues requests for work orders for major repairs.
-Regulate, check, adjust, start and stop all operating systems and equipment such as, but not limited to: Steam Heating Systems, Water Heating Systems, HVAC System, Pneumatic Tube Systems, Tarn Pure Systems (including monitoring and logging data), Water Treatment Systems, Kitchen Equipment, and All Control systems.
-Responsible for the proper operation and shut down of all utilities.
-Clean, oil, and make minor repairs to all building equipment.
-Monitor and keep elevators in good operating condition.
-Perform Preventative Maintenance Work assignments.
-Inspect electrical distribution systems, locates short circuits, loose connections, etc. and makes minor repairs.
-Reset automatic doors. Check and reset clocks.
-Operate department vehicles including street sweeper.
-Follow and provide input relative to the construction status of jobs.
-Maintain tools and inventory. Conduct tours as required.
-Ensure gas cylinders are full and in good operating condition.
-Monitor, repair, fill and test medical gas back up systems and gas outlets and prepare reports.
-Calibrate instruments. Perform minor roof repairs.
-Operate and assist in maintaining and trouble shooting the various direct digital and pneumatic controls.
-Test fire jockey and main pumps and prepares written reports.
-Assist in the maintaining, testing and trouble shooting and resetting of fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Check O. R. relative humidity and temperature. Prepare necessary related reports.
-Perform filter changes – AHU, air boxes, fan coils, etc. and maintain filter change logs. Perform water chemical tests.

Basic Qualifications

-Required level of education: High school diploma.
-Area of education: Vocational Degree.
-Required level of experience: 3 years.
-Area of experience: HVAC and Refrigeration experience preferably in health care or service repair field environment.
-Previous experience in engineering and/or building maintenance preferred.
-May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure/Certifications

-Act 33 Child Clearance
-Act 34 Criminal Clearance
-Act 73 FBI
-Stationary Engineer
-Universal refrigeration recovery certification is preferred.
