As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google’s complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.As the a Video specialist on the Google Fiber Network Engineering team, you are a strong network engineer that can also participate in video service architectural discussions and designs. You will be working with Product Management to understand requirements through to providing designs and guidance to our deployment and operations teams for infrastructure installations supporting the core of our video services. You have a strong design background and a solid understanding of IGPs, MPLS, BGP, MPEG over IP, and Video encoding formats and encryption.
Responsibilities

Work with product management to understand product requirements and translate them to service, network and CPE requirements.

Define and design national scale service architecture to deliver video services; Work with network engineers to define how video services will be delivered over the network and how both will evolve over time.

Interact with associated vendors relating to requirements and capabilities of externally sourced products and services.

Contribute to the definition of MOPs for use by deployment and operations resources applicable to video service elements and network service elements.

Handle escalated issues and work closely with Operations to resolve service concerns and issues.

Minimum Qualifications :

BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.

Experience with video processing platforms; A background in service provider network architecture and design.

Experience with scripting with Python, PHP, Perl or Shell.

Preferred Qualifications :

Background equivalent to, or industry certifications (e.g. CCIE, SRC, JNCIE, etc.).

Experience working in an MSO or service provider environment.

Deep understanding of Video service elements including OTT, VOD, and Linear services; Solid grasp of multicast.

Some exposure to network protocols such as IGPs, MPLS, BGP.

General knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, SNMP and Syslog protocols.
