We currently have an opportunity available for a talented MATERIALS MANAGER. This position will be located in Worcester, MA and manages the activities of employees engaged in purchasing/planning/inventory control and shipping and receiving with broader responsibility for contributing to the overall balance between purchasing, planning, inventory levels and operating costs.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Initiates RFQ’s and evaluates supplier bids and contracts. 
  • Compose & negotiate supplier contracts and place Purchase Orders where appropriate  and cost effective. 
  • Supervises the selection and ordering of materials, supplies, merchandise or commodities within company policy.
  • Communicates with supplier changes in specifications, change orders, quantities and adjustments.
  • Authorizes payment of invoices or return of merchandise.
  • Supervise the maintenance of purchase order/invoices/receiving records system.
  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports as well as stock demands (min/max).
  • Oversee supplier management activities including approved supplier lists to continually improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Oversee the process of work order maintenance with the use of MRP System.
  • Responsible for the costing of product with the use of cost calculations and the ability to interact with Manufacturing, Customer Service and Engineering.
  • Analyze and reconcile inventory variance, identifying root causes.  Audit inventory transactions and data entry of daily cycle counts.
  • Works closely with Planning and Customer Service to minimize inventory and carrying cost.
  • Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of purchased product or service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
  • Reviews monthly cycle count overview package and reports to management; assist with the physical inventory process.
  • Notifies buyers and planners of inventory adjustments.
  • Provide weekly summary reporting of inventory accuracy.
  • Verifies clerical computation against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies.
  • Required to travel to consignments and satellite facilities to conduct inventory audits.
  • Supervises receiving & shipping personnel and monitors material flow from receiving to production to shipping.
  • May supervise the maintenance of purchase order/invoice/receiving records system.
  • Prepares instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
  • Prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices to purchasing agents.


Other Responsibilities:

  • Knows and follows all safety requirements, including emergency evacuation; strives to maintain a safe work environment and reports potential hazards to lead or supervisor. All employees will be responsible for knowing where non-hazardous waste collection containers are located and for putting non-hazardous wastes in appropriate containers.
  • Communicates regularly with local managers on inventory issues, and suggests improvements. Effectively gives and receives feedback; willingly asks questions and seeks direction as needed.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.
  • Trains employees as required on inventory transactions and process changes.
  • Develop, manage and maintain training required for all inventory control guidelines.
  • Performs detail-oriented tasks utilizing excellent math, oral and written communication skills.
  • Performs tasks utilizing efficient skills in Microsoft Office.
