Job Description
POSITION : IPL Engineer (Mechanical)

GROUP: IPL Power Supply / Outage & Project Management

LOCATION: Petersburg, IN

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degreed candidates must have five (5) year’s verifiable current experience with major project management in mechanical systems
  • Non-Degreed candidates must have 10 year’s verifiable current experience with major project management in mechanical systems.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology from an accredited college/university
  • Experience in an Electric Utility and Power Plant Operations & Maintenance
  • Proficient personal computer skills to include MicroSoft Suite
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, and able to work with limited direct supervision
  • Pulverized coal-fired generating unit project, inspection, and troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 operation

POSITION SCOPE:

The Engineer will be part of Outage & Project Management and under the direction of the Engineering & Project Management Leader. The Engineer will support three (3) IPL generating stations with inspections and/or troubleshooting to boilers, ductwork, fans, pulverizers, condensers, turbines, FGD, SCR, and other associated equipment as needed. The Engineer will be involved with directing the work activities of contractors as needed on new installations, making repairs and inspections to plant equipment. Additionally, the Engineer will be involved with reporting and maintaining current programs which assist the plant’s operations and maintenance divisions. He or she will be involved with preparation of estimates, construction drawings, material specifications and lists, procurement forms, work orders, contracts, and property record reports. These duties require the Engineer to communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, and with all areas of the Company. The Engineer will learn and be expected to use Oracle, EDMS PI, EMPAC, PowerPlan and other applications as required to perform his/her job. This person will be involved in the budget and forecasting details for both Capital and O&M expenditures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages capital and maintenance project activities
  • Directs the work activities of contractors as needed on new installations, making repairs and inspections to plant equipment
  • Makes decisions as needed to successfully complete work within budget and schedule parameters
  • Assembles and manages project work in a matrix type organization
