DUTIES: Back to top This position is located in the Operational Support Division, Office of Information System in Sterling, VA.

Incumbent will perform the following duties:

Performs site surveys, analysis, planning and scheduling for the support efforts associated with IT installation network expansion. Provides world-wide support for the classified infrastructure. Serves as an expert in all matters related to acquisition, installation, support, and implementation of Wide Area Network systems, applications, and telecommunications systems. Installs and tests servers, switches, hubs, encryption devices, workstations, printers, scanners, and software as needed. Ensures that all LAN/WAN hardware and wiring conform to building codes. Coordinates problem resolution, and fine-tunes the hardware and software necessary to insure effective Wide Area Network product development. Serves as a technical authority for an extremely complex state-of-the-art telecommunications system which requires the integration of multiple services in a widely distributed communication environment. Provides service and support on telecommunications operations, installations and maintenance on a number of different functional areas within the organization and to, a lesser extent, in vendor operations.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top GS-13 : You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 Federal grade level performing a wide range of IT network and telecommunications services to include: network administration and maintenance in a large complex networking environment; monitoring performance and resolving network problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)/Competencies: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Ability to conduct network infrastructure analyses and design.

2. Ability to administer network infrastructure systems.

3. Ability to solve problems and make decisions.

4. Ability to apply network management tools.

5. Attention to Detail: Performs information technology (IT)-related work in a thorough manner, with attention to detail and concern for all areas involved.

6. Oral Communication: Communicates effectively with individuals or groups in formal or informal information technology (IT) settings, expressing and/or presenting a variety of information (e.g., factual, conceptual, technical, sensitive, controversial, etc.).

7. Customer Service: Fulfills internal and external information technology (IT) client and customer needs, provides information, assistance, and/or training, resolves problems; explains system and product functionality; and satisfies expectations.

8. Problem Solving: Identifies problems and causation factors and generated solutions and/or offers recommendations for a variety of confirmed information technology (IT) problems.

9. Knowledge of designs, developments, implementations, and maintenance of IT security systems and programs.
