Job Description
BASIC PURPOSE:
This position has the overall responsibility for planning and administration of the corporate information, voice and data communication functions. Scope includes domestic, international, shoreside and shipboard operations as well as electronic distribution channels. The thrust of this position is to leverage technology in the attainment of corporate goals and objectives in terms of revenue, cost effectiveness, operational efficiencies and profitability.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategically aligns and ensures all resources are utilized in the most effective manner to accomplish tasks within established time schedules, service levels and budgets.
  2. Prepares operating and capital budgets and submits for corporate approval. Approves expenditures in accordance with approved budgets and within the position’s approved limits. Conducts monthly departmental expense analysis and forecasts annual expenditures.
  3. Formulates current and future strategies and makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President, Finance/CFO and to the IT Steering Committees.
  4. Directs the continuing review of present systems in order to determine level of effectiveness, required modifications and/or replacement in light of corporate needs and requirements.
  5. Directs the on-going review and analysis of equipment and software. This takes into consideration capacity, performance and projected useful life in light of forecasted demand and technological developments. This function comprises, but is not limited to, mainframe, mid-range, networking, desktop, fax, telephone, communications, electronic channels and ancillary equipment.
  6. Directs the on-going conduct of equipment and operating software tuning and performance optimization activities in order to maximize the technology investment. This function includes maintaining the proper levels of hardware maintenance and support as well as the appropriate software releases in order to meet established service levels.
  7. Directs the selection, recommendation for acquisition and/or procurement of hardware and software solutions based upon results of the two previous activities as well as ad-hoc needs. This includes working with the Finance Department in lease vs. buy decisions.
  8. Directs the prioritization and approval of projects as well as the assignment of resources.
  9. Ensures the establishment of and adherence to effective and sound practices in the areas of systems development, data security, problem/change management and data center/network, voice and electronic distribution operations. Directs the formulation of standards and procedures in accordance with recognized industry practices.
  10. Carries direct responsibility for the administration of the Information Technology Services Agreement between Norwegian Cruise Line Limited and Vendor.
  11. Acts as member of the IT Steering Committees. Prepares a monthly report for the Committees detailing departmental performance against established projects and priorities as well as performance against operational service levels.
  12. Directs the development and maintenance of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans, including testing of the plans to ensure viability of execution. Participates in the Operational Management Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration. Master’s Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Ten or more years of experience in Information Technology in a medium to large sized corporation. Special emphasis on IT security, alignment of different IT systems and financial planning and control.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills which includes using prudent judgment to assist the company in maintaining its mission and achieving its goals.

  • Ability to think strategically, looking at the big picture and long term future to make recommendations in order to continually make improvements to processes, structure, policies and systems that maintain alignment with required service levels/function and budget to include cost savings to the company.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, in order to professionally communicate with all levels in the company as well as with vendors, contractors and interested external people.
  • Ability to express technical issues and solutions in business terms so as to be understood by non-technical people.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently implement plans, projects and assignments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills which includes the ability to follow-through on all assignments, projects, tasks and plans.
  • Ability to coach and motivate a team in order to drive employee engagement and motivation. This includes supervising a team which consists of hiring, conducting performance management and assisting in employee relations
