Job Description
Located in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah is a public, four-year institution committed to providing an exceptional academic and co-curricular experience for students and the University community. The “U” is a Pac-12 institution with over 31,000 students. Heritage Commons is home to 2,400 students who live in the 2002 Winter Olympic athlete village, residing in 20 co-ed residence halls and 10 apartment buildings.

Additionally, Housing & Residential Education (HRE) has two apartment buildings located in downtown Salt Lake City that constitute Downtown Commons. Heritage Commons constitutes 868K square feet and Downtown Commons is 26K square feet. HRE added a 309-bed honors living learning complex (161K square feet) in the fall of 2012. The University Housing Campus Master plan calls for continued growth and construction to meet the housing demand including the construction of Lassonde Studios which will house approximately 400 students and will open for the fall of 2016.

The assignments & occupancy coordinator assists with the management of the occupancy area including, but not limited to, occupancy reporting and verification, assisting with HRE move-in/out and opening/closing procedures. The assignments & occupancy coordinator supervises student leaders called housing ambassadors. The assignments & occupancy coordinator reports to the assistant director of occupancy, marketing & assessment and is member of the department’s central office team.

COMPENSATION: $32,000 to $35,000/yr. Strong benefit package including tuition reduction program, retirement and health plan options.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. During opening and closing periods, this person will need to support department efforts with possible weekend and evening coverage. Attend weekly staff, area and department meetings as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees the collection and organization of data that are entered into databases.
2. Ensures the accuracy of data, analyzes conflicting data, and verifies/collects missing information.
3. Utilizes computer programs/software to analyze data; determines trends and changes in data.
4. Develops and presents recommendations for a course of action based on the analysis of data.
5. Provides documents/reports to administrators and outside agencies as required.
6. Handles special projects and creates special reports as needed.
7. May perform supervisory duties.

QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERENCES:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two years’ experience in collecting, organizing analyzing, and presenting data; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

• Experience working in a university housing system and/or a strong background in customer service relations.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
• Organizational skills to manage workflow and establish a harmonious and productive environment.
• Skill in accurately analyzing information, situations, and procedures to define problems and formulate conclusions.
• Skill in speaking concisely and logically, using grammatically correct language to convey information and explain policies and procedures. Experience in writing routine business correspondence and operating procedures.
• Demonstrated skill to work effectively with students, parents and university officials.
• Working knowledge of various software packages (including spreadsheets word processing and email).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
