The desired candidate is an accomplished leader who will drive the conception, execution and communication of AbbVie antibody-drug-technology development strategies for oncology and immunology applications in a highly collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities:
A primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to lead scientific teams in multiple disciplines, including chemistry, cell biology and protein engineering, and align resources and research strategy to create in industry leading Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) technology at AbbVie.

The ADC Technology Development Leader will be responsible for assembling and motivating this multidisciplinary team in a matrix environment to drive innovation and establish a differentiated, industry leading ADC technology that is aligned with Therapeutic Areas vision and strategy, and can applied to all Therapeutic areas of AbbVie.

Assure that the technology development effort – while formally separate from ongoing target specific project teams – is effectively aligned with and integrated into these efforts, where applicable.

Develop strategies that effectively balance external and internal research activities to drive success. To do so, he/she will collaborate with the AbbVie Scientific Assessment, Ventures & Early Stage Collaboration and Therapeutic Area teams to identify external opportunities for new biologics, linker and warhead technologies.

Work with members of the Intellectual Property department at AbbVie to develop a comprehensive IP strategy for all aspects of the project.

The candidate will access and acquire resources from functional departments in a matrix environment and builds awareness of integrated AbbVie ADC activities throughout organization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the AbbVie ADC multidisciplinary ADC technology development research team in an exciting, fast-paced team environment.

Qualifications
Basic:
PhD in cell/molecular biology, immunology or related field with significant experience leading multidisciplinary teams as demonstrated by track record of scientific accomplishments.

12 – 14+ years postdoc and industry experience

Visionary leader with recognized scientific reputation in the field of antibody drug conjugate technology, biologics sciences and have a proven successful track record in drug discovery with view into early development.

Experience with successful external academic/biotech collaborations with strong connection with external scientific network is desired.

Must have excellent communication and presentation skills for audiences of varied backgrounds

Experience with leading in a matrix environment is also desired.

Significant Work Activities and Conditions

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
