About Us
Welcome to AdvancingWomen Jobs, Career Blog! The goal of AdvancingWomen.com and our blog is to “level the playing field” and to empower women and like- minded men in business and careers. In the vein of “it’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness”, we decided years ago it was more effective to give both women and men the tools and strategies to succeed with pocket book and voting booth issues, than to keep noting the gap between genders.
AdvancingWomen.com, is winner of Lycos Top 5% Award, Dow Jones Award, Beatrice-Yahoo Top Site, and WWWomen Best of Net, listed in Femina as a top women’s career site-Advancing Women has been featured in Elle, Self, Women and Success, and Fast Company magazines, Access, a Sunday Supplement, Business Class, an Australian magazine, and the San Antonio Business Journal.
I am Gretchen Glasscock and I am the founder and publisher of AdvancingWomen.com. As we all set out on the adventure of writing, commenting, and giving feedback on this blog, I hope I have lots of help from you activists, advocates, entrepreneurs, professionals and devoted bloggers out there.
My official title is Pres/CEO of AdvancingWomen.com and Advancing Women in Leadership Journal, a non-profit, and the first online refereed journal on the Net dealing with women’s issues.
I’m also a past member of the Board of Directors of National Association of Women Business Owner ( NAWBO-San Antonio).
I come from a *very* entrepreneurial family and was, for many years, a serial entrepreneur myself always looking for a new horizon to explore. The latest horizon has been the dawning of the Internet, which I migrated to and set up tent ,shortly after Netscape came out with the browser. ( As those of you involved with the Internet know, in Net time, that is somewhat equivalent to when the dinosaurs were crawling out of the swamps. I have many interesting stories from those wild and woolly pioneer days.)
For the past 12 years, I’ve devoted my public life to working on the Internet and trying to help level the playing field for women and like-minded men. ( Much of our audience now consists, not only of business people and professionals in the U.S., but businessmen in China and Saudi Arabia, and techs from India, and other countries around the globe.)
In that role, I’ve participated in, spoken at and collaborated with various organizations including:
• The Women in Americas Forum at the White House, where I helped increase economic development for women in the Americas, including women in a Central American mountain tribe who raised geese and began using the Internet to develop and sell products internationally like goose-down pillows and goose liver pate.
• The Women in Leadership International Summit in Brussels where I tried to teach European women business owners how to leverage technology to increase profits.
• Madeleine Albright in Win With Women, National Democratic Institute, Washington, D.C. to promote women in political leadership in 65 countries. I am a signatory on the Global Action Plan,
• The U.S. State Department and the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV, a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee for 2001) meeting with a delegation of top Pakistani women leaders in the areas of law, education, advocacy, and business to structure workplace equity.
• The National Women’s Summit of Leaders, Pipeline to the Presidency, in Washington, D.C. (sponsored by the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce)
My articles have been featured in Fortune 500 companies like Citibank and Hearst and publications such as the Cambridge University Press and other publications in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada and India.
So, thanks to all of you for joining in this new journey with me. Hold on, and let’s all enjoy the ride!
