Making a job, not just taking a job is one of the major messages teen girls will get at An Income of Her Own(TM) Conferences scheduled to be presented in major cities throughout the country. The conferences are designed to increase girl's awareness obusiness. They will learn the concepts of business ownership and discover how successful women entrepreneurs got their start. Joline Godfrey, CEO of Independent Means Inc. and developer of An Income of Her Own(TM) Conferences notes that the focus will be on teaching teen women how to take control of their futures. "We hope to encourage young women to become self sufficient as adult women by tapping into the vast possibilities presented by entrepreneurship," said Godfrey. During the conference, teen women will play a board game that introduces the vocabulary, history and ethics of business ownership, create new products, and develop mini-business plans. They will be guided and mentored by successful women business owners in the community. "We are looking forward to seeing the kinds of ideas the conference will generate from the teens who will be attending," said Gabriella Morris, President of The Prudential Foundation, co-developer of the conferences. "There are some very creative activities planned that could reap some very forward-thinking results on the part of these young women." The Prudential Foundation invested in the An Income of Her Own(TM) conferences as part of their commitment to help individuals and communities build the skills they need to be more productive and self-sufficient focusing on three important categories of need - Ready to Learn,Ready to Work, Ready to Live. Godfrey notes that the measure of success of the conferences is not the number of participants who go into business for themselves. "We want them to learn three things: business ownership is an option, familiarity with the basic concepts and language of business and exposure to business women as role models."
