International trend: countries around the world are choosing women to lead.

And, more women, like Senator Hillary Clinton, are stepping up to run.

Recently, in Santiago, Michelle Bachelet, was for inaugurated as Chile's first female president.  Since her election, Bachelet has made a point to enact changes that positively affect women.  She has appointed women to half of the posts in the administration's cabinet, given women the right to breast feed at work, and established domestic violence shelters across the country.

A woman is currently running for President in France, two women are vying for the top office in Israel (which has already had a woman president), a Nobel Peace Prize-winning woman is running in Guatemala, and talk of the first female presidential contender in South Korea has already begun.  Here at home, Hillary Clinton is running to be our first female president.

The White House Project, fully supported by AdvancingWomen.com, believes in the importance of filling the political pipeline with a diverse, critical mass of women who have the skills to be congresswomen, mayors, governors, and Presidents.

Also, reach out to other women to encourage them to run.

“ You have an opportunity to give history a nudge in a progressive direction — and to tell a woman you respect that you think she’s presidential timber, or she has the ‘right stuff’ to run for another important office such as school board, city council, or congress,” said Marie C. Wilson, President of The White House Project, founder of Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work ® Day and author of the best-selling book Closing the Leadership Gap: Why Women Can and Must Help Run the World.
