Not just for locals

About two months ago, I relocated 10 minutes away from where I had been living and I haven’t even finished unpacking. In the trunk of my car you’ll find an assortment of random things that I’ve yet to put away including bedding, kitchen items, some board games and a few DVDs. Packing and unpacking can be tough whether you’re moving to Honolulu, HI or Augusta, ME, but finding a new job in the area doesn’t have to be!

If you’ve thought about relocating, or even if you’re curious about the demographics of the area that you currently live in, Simply Hired’s Local Jobs tool is a great way to find information about cities across the U.S. For example, if you look up Atlanta, GA, you will find a brief summary of the city, followed by the city’s top employers (such as Home Depot, Time Warner, and Emory University), top jobs (physical therapist jobs, post-doc fellow jobs, assistant professor jobs), employment rates, Atlanta salaries, and even statistics such as population, marital status (for anyone looking for something besides a job) and average commute time. In addition, you can read up on the area’s news, to get a hint of the local flavor.

And of course, you can search for jobs too.

Target List of Companies

Do you have a list of companies you would like to work for? If you do, you can discover information about the company, review open positions, and find connections to help with your application. If you don’t have a list of target companies – a short of list of employers you would be thrilled to work for – it’s a good idea to research company information and create a list of companies to target in your job search.

Happy Limerick Day!

Today Simply Hired is celebrating Limerick Day, in honor of Edward Lear who popularized the humorous poems in English during the 19th century. In honor of the day, here are a few work-related limericks:

There once was a man named Bob
Who wanted to find a new job
But the work he could find
He thought unrefined
And Bob realized he was a job snob!

The man I sat next to at work
Always would drive me berserk
One day the fellow
Put my stapler in Jell-O
And looked at me with a sly smirk
(from Dwight’s perspective on NBC’s The Office)

Do you have a job-related limerick? Send them in!

Mother’s Day Spectacular

Hey all you working mothers out there! Whether you are changing careers or getting back into the workforce, Simply Hired has a lifestyle search filter that caters specifically to you! The Mom-Friendly Companies filter returns open positions at employers on the 100 Best Companies list that Working Mother magazine releases. These companies are named as the best employers for working moms based on the areas of workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and more.

There are plenty of open positions at the companies on Working Mother’s list. With the Mom-Friendly filter, you can find for example, Bank of America jobs, Bristol-Myers Squibb jobs, and IBM jobs.

Happy Mother’s Day!
