How To Select The Perfect Home Based Business BB Lee (C)2005

Remember your school days. The dreaded day when you took the state wide career assessment test. A test that spanned several hours? An exam to expose your strongest career interest. And then when you received the results you were surprised at their findings.

You were detailed oriented and good with mechanical things. Or you were an outdoor type and scientifically inclined. This ultimately left you puzzled.

Fast forward several years. Job evaluation or career assessment exams might cost several hundred dollars. But, listen very closely to this. I am going to let you in on a little secret. You will easily select the perfect business with the following brief business/career evaluation test.

This article will show you an easy way to select the business that is right for you! One that perfectly matches your skills, background, and abilities. So grab a sheet of paper or open up your text editor and let's get started!

First, list all the business ideas that you are considering on a sheet of paper in the order of your interest. Try to narrow your list down to about five choices or less.

Now, list the idea that you are really crazy about first. The idea that you like least in last place.

Once you have your list of business ideas you will rate them on a scale of 0 to 3.

0-none 1-less than average 2-average 3-above average

Next, you will score each idea according to the following categories.

Your Knowledge: What do you know about this business idea? Will you need to seek further education or training. Will you need to consult professionas? Rating: 0-no knowledge 1-some knowledge 2-limited knowledge 3. working knowledge

Experience: Many people might have knowledge about an interest but limited experience. Perhaps you know everything there is to know about cars. But have you ever worked as a car mechanic? Or you are a whiz at designing web sites but have you ever worked for a web site developer? Rating: 0-no experience 1-indirect experience 2-limited experience 3- familiar with the business

Skills: Concentrate on the skills that are essential to that business idea. To what extent do you have those skills. Will you need to upgrade your skills to enter this field? Rating: 0-none 1-limited skills 2-some skills 3 extensive skills

Entry: What will it cost you to enter this field? How about the competition? Is the market in your area filled with others running this type of business? If you operate the business out of your home the cost will be much less than leasing a business office or building. But if there are a few dozen operating the same type of business in your local area your pool of customers will be limited. Thus entry into this field might be very difficult. Rating: 0-crowded field 1-limited entry 2-limited competition 3-Unrestricted entry

Unique: Are you providing the same service as others in your competing area? Is there something that is different about your service or product? Are you providing something that others in your area are not? For example if you are starting an auto repair service you might offer free car wash with service or a discount. Or if you offer a web design service you might provide search engine optimization along with free submission to top search engines. Rating: 0-Service widely available 1-Only a few are offering the service in your area. 2-One or two in your area 3-None providing this service in your area.

Chart Example Follows ----------------------------------------------------------------- - Biz Idea Knowledge Experience Skills Entry Unique =Total ----------------------------------------------------------------- - 1. ----------------------------------------------------------------- - 2. ----------------------------------------------------------------- - 3. ----------------------------------------------------------------- - 4. ----------------------------------------------------------------- - 5. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -

Now Tally up your scores in the right hand column. Which idea scored high? Great! Go for it! You now know the perfect home business for YOU! And it only cost a few moments of self evaluation. And ultimately might lead to life long profits.
