POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is part of a team of Technology Support Specialists who are responsible for installing, diagnosing and repairing computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment in all District facilities; training staff in computer operations and programs; evaluating software for instructional and administrative uses; analyzing and correcting problems with assigned systems and associated components; troubleshooting software problems; researching and advising on technology related purchases; communicating with the Technology staff, other districts, and consultants on technical issues and solutions.

District Service Center, Woodbury Middle School, Woodbury Elementary, Royal Oaks Elementary

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot and repair a variety of complex equipment in a multi-vendor environment
  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing network and equipment problems; installation and configuration of switches, routers, hubs, and other network hardware.
  • Assist in supporting integrated voice and data communications systems including Voice over IP technologies, power patch panels and servers
  • Perform routine maintenance on hardware, software, peripherals and network equipment
  • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks; set up and maintain servers; establish and maintain user accounts, passwords, e-mail accounts, internet connectivity, back-ups, and designated programs and systems.
  • Serve as a member of the Technology Support Center Staff
  • Provide training and assistance to system users concerning computer operations, software applications and malfunctions.
  • Communicate with various site personnel to coordinate activities, exchange information and resolve issues and concerns.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and software
  • Provide first line support to the building administrative, educational, and support staff in the use of hardware and software applications installed in the building.
  • Maintain an inventory of building computer and peripheral equipment
  • Support computer labs with installation of software, maintenance and images updates.
  • Responsible for one or several of the specific areas of responsibility from the list below. This list is not inclusive and can have additions or deletions depending on the needs of the Technology Services Department. These duties are assigned on a rotating basis and assigned as skills are identified by successful applicants. These areas include but are not limited to the following: manage Internet Filtering Software – IWSS, develop and maintain training materials, provide the necessary training to student interns to support their clients, provide second level support for the ALC and Community Ed, maintain District ListServ, maintain Basic District Images, maintain the district’s data backups, manage Windows Updates (WSUS), support Active Directory, maintain Standard Desktop backgrounds for staff and students, maintain district computer standards, adhere to district computer standards, DPRS and Nutrition Services
  • Support the various departments within the district and the accompanying software applications
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICIATIONS:

  • Must understand installation, configuration and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking, and accessory equipment
  • Requires experience with desktop computers
  • Ability to work independently and perform all of the duties of the position effectively and efficiently
  • Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain all equipment used at the district
  • Ability to operate in a mixed-platform environment
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and motivate professional staff
  • Analytic and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies
  • Broad knowledge of Windows products and system methodologies
  • Understanding of the business of education and educational issues
  • Minimally an AA/AS degree in Computer Science or MIS or related field plus two years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.

DESIRED QUALIFICIATIONS;

  • Experience in a school district
  • BA/BS degree in computer science or related field
