Job Summary: The IMT Enterprise Data Warehouse organization is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of programs to develop and maintain EY’s global business intelligence platforms. The team is geographically dispersed and comprises of all disciplines required to deliver IT solutions for our customers, including project managers, business analysts, software engineers, quality assurance & testers and implementation managers. In addition the function works closely with the Enterprise & Solution Architecture and Infrastructure & Operations teams.

The Master Data Management (MDM) Technical Lead is part of the overall EDW program and is responsible for delivering projects to time, scope, budget and quality within EY. These projects form components of overarching multi-year, multi-million dollar internal global EDW programs to deliver the organization’s Business Intelligence & Reporting and Master Data Management strategy.

The Master Data Management Technical Lead is responsible for technical delivery of the Master Data Management solutions within a multi-year, multi-million dollar internal global Business Intelligence and MDM program at Ernst & Young. These programs may consist of interrelated projects under an overarching program or may comprise a single large multi-year program. The Technical Lead will lead a global application engineering team and manage all application engineering activities, including technical analysis and design, work breakdown structures, build and unit test within a program, working closely with the program/project manager and our customer to ensure project success.

The role requires mastery of Master Data Management techniques for design, build, unit test and deployment. This role also requires significant proven experience at delivering Microsoft Business Intelligence and MDM solutions on the Microsoft technology platform including SQL Server (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS), SharePoint 2010 and .NET 4.0.

The Technical Lead supports the Program/Project Manager in the overall delivery of the firm’s strategy including process improvement, funding and portfolio management, multi-year roadmaps and the delivery of approved programs and projects.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Successfully deliver technical solutions within multi-million dollar, multi-year global business intelligence programs for the IT Services organization through:
• Acting as the single point of application engineering accountability for MDM project/program managers on assigned engagements
• Planning and managing delivery of all application engineering activities for assigned program/projects including working closely with off-shore 3rd party vendors to deliver projects to time, cost and quality requirements primarily on the Microsoft technology platform
• Ensuring that application engineering and architecture standards are met as prescribed by IT Services through the effective implementation or use of approved processes, methodologies and deliverables primarily based upon the Microsoft Business Intelligence technology platform
• Researching and evaluating alternative technical solutions with the Application Architecture team and proposing the most efficient and cost-effective solution while minimizing risk to the project and firm
• Guiding the application engineering team to translate Application Architecture deliverables into more detailed Solution Design Documents and the resulting build deliverables including significant amount of hands-on coding and code reviews
• Leading the application engineering delivery and management of engineering resources, resource plans and work breakdown structure within a program/project ensuring these align with approved standards
• Managing engineering team workload, performance and delivery targets within a program/project including recruitment and annual reviews of staff
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other IT Service groups and customers to expedite delivery of IT solutions
• Provide technical guidance and coaching and expertise to team members, colleagues and/or customers
• Assisting in the broader development of application engineering policies, standards and procedures

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

• Make the appropriate decisions and approvals in order to successfully deliver multi-million dollar global business intelligence programs
• Monitor and manage the program/project application engineering baseline to ensure activities are occurring as planned – scope, budget and schedule and managing variances
• Proactively identify risks, issues and problems on programs/projects – leading engineering and project/program team to develop risk management and issue management plans
• Ability to clearly articulate problems and proposed options and solutions and apply judgment in implementing application engineering methodologies, processes and practices to ensure security, resilience, maintainability and quality of MDM solutions
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements and customer demands
• Ability to prioritize personal and team workloads to best meet organizational objectives
• Analytical skills and problem solving skills needed to manage multiple factors on a program/project simultaneously
• Demonstrate business analytics to manage and meet sponsor and customer needs

Supervision Responsibilities:

• Leads application engineering teams to deliver technical solutions for global multi-million dollar, multi-year program/project to schedule, budget and scope
• Leads program/project application engineering teams consisting of cross functional, global, and virtual groups; directly supervises staff; assigns responsibility to members; monitors progress of the daily activities
• Recruits and undertakes personal development of team to develop their skills and maintain industry-leading knowledge in their areas of responsibility including, where necessary, performance management of staff members

• Coaches, mentors and supports less experienced staff and is accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

• Proven track record of successful delivery of application engineering within Business Intelligence and MDM programs/projects with personal accountability for the functional and non-functional application engineering design and execution within large, complex programs/projects typically more than $5m in value and 18 months in duration that includes the use of supplier and off-shore resources
• Significant experience with implementing and maintaining application engineering disciplines for Business Intelligence technologies, vendors and products on the Microsoft platform including SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), .NET, SharePoint
• Senior application engineering experience and able to take an active hands-on keyboard engineering role
• Track record of customer focus and stakeholder management based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises
• Mastery of application engineering methodology, tools and templates (includes planning, schedule development, scope management and cost management) including Risk Management and life cycle management tools such as Team Foundation Server
• Supporting the Program Manager in managing to contract; ensuring clients and suppliers alike perform in accordance with original agreement
• Management skills to lead an Application Engineering team across one or more large, complex Business Intelligence / MDM global programs/projects simultaneously
• Proven IT delivery background with experience across the systems development life cycle with experience in all program/project phases – plan, initiate, elaborate, design, build, test, implement.
• Leader in the use of Application Engineering methodologies, processes, standards tools and techniques within the Business Intelligence / MDM domain
• Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing

Experience:

• 15+ years application engineering experience including full life-cycle and functional/non-functional experience specifically on the Microsoft platform including SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), .NET, SharePoint
• 8+ years experience leading application engineering project teams
• 5+ years experience with business intelligence (Enterprise Reporting, Analytics and Data Warehousing)
• Excellent experience in client-facing roles within blue chip organizations
• Experience of application engineering team management with medium/large multi-location teams on multi-year Business Intelligence & MDM projects/programs
• Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred
• Work experience in a global role, preferred

Education:

• A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience
• Microsoft certification preferred

National and international travel may be required
